I’m beginning to understand why the doctor said I’d be ready to have the other foot done by next month…I’m making improvements everyday. Sometimes I even surprise myself with how well I’m doing. The pain I was having in my heel and ankle has diminished significantly in the last week. I’d say I’m only experiencing about 10-20% of the heel and ankle pain that I was last week. I’m walking without a cane or any other aid and I can even walk fast enough to keep up with my husband now! LOL Yesterday we even stopped over at
Best Buy for a little light Christmas shopping and I walked around the store for about a half an hour. That’s the longest time I’ve spent walking (without sitting or taking a break) since the surgery. And I wasn’t even in pain when we were done!
The doctor’s office called today and informed me that I’ve been scheduled for surgery on my other foot on December 17th at 715am. Exactly 3 months after the first surgery…kinda weird. I’m hoping that’s a good sign. I’m not looking forward to doing this all over again but I am looking forward to getting it all over and done with. So...in a little over a month, we’ll be going back in for round 2! LOL
Laura, how are you doing? Has your pain improved? Are you able to get around your house okay? Hope you’re feeling better!

Hiya, that's great to hear that you are doing so well, I can't belive you'll be having your other foot done so soon, that's fantastic! I had my cast done and stitches out on Thursday, my cast is purple, which is my favourite colour, I love it! Lol I also got to look at my foot for the first time. I was so scared I had this awful feeling that my foot would still look the same and I had gone through all this for nothing! Silly I know! But my foot is very very different, it doesn't look like my foot at all. It is straight and flat, I can't believe it. The surgeon has done an amazing job. I have a lot of little scars, but they're worth it to have normal feet! I have 2 little scars on my calf, which I wasn't expecting, but apparently they had to get in there to mess with the tendons or something. There is so much I didn't know about how the foot works! Haha! My foot did feel strange when it was taken out. It was still quite numb so it felt very heavy when I moved it. It reminded me of the same feeling I had after my hip replacement, but the feeling came back quite quickly then and once I started walking it wasn't heavy anymore. I am hoping it will be the same with this. Did you have the same feeling when they took your foot out of the cast? As I have a pin in my big toe I couldn't move it at all, the surgeon told me this would be the case and I will never be able to move it. My other toes have been left as they are, there are no pins in them. Can you move your toes even though they have pins in them?
ReplyDeleteI am still taking medication, but I have cut right down and im just taking 1 tablet before bed and 1 in the morning. I seem to need 1 in the morning because my foot aches in the morning when I wake up. I am sleeping better, the only problem I have is that because I sleep with my foot elevated I wake up a lot and it has gone to sleep. It's not painful, just an annoying feeling. I usually hang my foot out of the bed to get the feeling back. Nevermind, it's a small price to pay. I am hoping to wean myself off of the meds soon though, they do make me quite tired and lethargic as they're quite strong.
I have to go back to the hospital in 4 weeks to have my cast removed and hopefully into a walking boot! I can't wait for that!
Love the pic of the monkey by the way it made me smile! That's my favourite animal, I love anything with monkeys on it!

It really is a shock to see your "new" foot the first time isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI did have some numbness when my cast came off and it has slowly gone away as I began walking. I just have a small patch of numbness left on the bottom of my heel which I'm sure will go away soon.
The middle joint in all of my toes (except for the pinky toe)was removed and the bones were fused so my toes only bend at the point that they attach to my foot. So my toes don't bend too much either. The pins were removed from my toes but I do still have a screw in my big toe which is permanent.
It is nice to get off all the meds, I hate the way they make me feel. When I was weaning off them I took them in the morning and evening just like you're doing (and for the same reason).
I'm glad you're feeling better. Keep me up to date with your progress!
