First trip out!

I"m 6 days post-op and I took my first trip outside the house today. I woke up this morning with a sharp burning pain in one of my toes and when mom looked down through the cast with a flashlight she could see that the toe was bright red rather than a normal pink like the other toes. So we called the doctor and he said he wanted to see me "right now!". Of course I sort of panicked because I had only planned to leave the house with my husband's help and he was at work. We had a wheelchair and a rented ramp which can be put up to the back door (we decided at the last minute that it would be safer than jumping up the steps) but it's very steep so only my husband can safely push me down it, plus it's very heavy to move over and set up. So we finally came up with a plan....my 17- year old son would put his arms under my arms and slowly lower me down to a sitting position on the kitchen floor, I could then slide out onto the back step and then stand up and use my scooter. It worked out very well! My son lowered me to the floor like I was made of egg shells and I hopped right out onto my scooter. The doctor looked at the toe for like 2 minutes (after we waited in the waiting room for 20 mins) and said it was fine. So since we were already out of the house we went to Village Inn for an early lunch. Everything went well there except that everyone was staring at me. That scooter got a lot of attention at the doctor's office and at the restaurant, everyone wanted to know where I got it. When we got back home, getting inside was a bit harder. I had to sit my hinny inside the back door and scoot all they way across the kitchen and the living room on my bum over to the couch. Then mom supported my bad leg while I pushed myself up onto the couch. That was the only way we could figure out how to get off the floor. It was definitely an adventure. We're both tired out and ready for a nap now! LOL
